ST: Red Sox vs. Twins 3/13

Wellllll…. I usually get Red Sox LA’s picture from his Instagram, but with the whole Facebook and Instagram down all day… I don’t really know what to put there… I’ll figure something out… lol UPDATE: RedSox LA got the post up right before I finished. Hallelujah 🙌🏽 There were no real news to share.

The Lineups

Today, JD was apart of the original lineup, but was a late scratch because of lower back tightness. All the reports so far seem that it was just precautionary, but you know that we will let you know ASAP. It is so good to see Swihart catching more and more pitchers. I am so hopeful it’s a Vazquez-Swihart tandem for the season. The roster is so much more flexible with that, and I really see Swihart has just as competent as Leon at receiving.

Important Moments

Today was Nathan Eovaldi’s first outing of the spring, and it was nothing short of impressive. Showing 99 on several occasions, and showing off the curveball and cutter already. He did allow a HR on a slower than usual cutter, he blew through everyone else. Swihart had a killer day. Entering the day he was already hitting .357, he nailed two doubles for two RBIs one of them was with 2 outs, taking a note from 2018’s book.

Starting off the game, Eovaldi struck out Marwin Gonzalez on three pitches and set the tone right away. Back to back groundouts and the inning was over; giving way to a nice pitch count as Cora was planning 50 pitches over 3 IP. After a leadoff walk, Mitch Garver grounded into a double play to further help the pitch count. The bottom of the second was a nice change for the quiet bats of the Sox, Bogey singled, Brock walked, and both scored on the double from Swihart.

Leading off the third, Byron Buxton hit the homer off Eovaldi. Yes it was not the best location for a pitch, as you can’t get more middle-middle than that. Eovaldi did the end his outing quickly after that. He ended his outing at 39 pitches. Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald even says saying that (🔥HOT TAKE ALERT🔥) Eovaldi should start opening day instead of Sale. Yikes. I can see his point of view, but not sure if I agree: especially with Sale in his walk year. You want him to stay, right??

JBJ started the bottom of the 3rd off with a K but they would go on to get Mookie on, and Bogaerts with another single. that ended with a weak pop to the SS Adrianza though. Colten Brewer came in to relive Evo, but quickly gave up the lead. Double, error, forceout and it was tied. He then got Schoop to GIDP to end the inning, whew.

Brian Johnson had a quick and quiet 5th, but got lit up in the 6th. Single, double, groundout, single, HR and it was 6-2 Twins. After a Nunez walk (wow), Holt doubled him in to make it 6-3. In the 9th, the prospects got a rally going, Top Prospect Bobby Dalbec started it all off with a first pitch single to LF, De La Guerra signed, and Tate Matheny TRIPLED to score both runners.

Final Box Scores

Another good game, that we weren’t able to watch. I’m excited to be able to be writing this while WATCHING E-Rod’s sick changeup! Are you tuning in?

Stay tuned and open tomorrow’s email. Talk to you then 🤙🏽
